Virtual Irish Indoor Rowing Championships 2021 – from home!

Our athletes competed at the inaugural Virtual Irish Indoor Rowing Championships from home yesterday.
.
We had a great showing with 15 athletes competing, bringing 8 medals back to the boathouse including two golds🥇🥇.
.
The race of the day was undoubtedly produced by our U23 women, with Clara O’Brien , Corina Couglan and Lauren O’Brien crossing the line within .3 seconds of each other!
.
**Conor Mulready placed second in the MU23 category in a time of 6:17 however his erg didn’t connect so his result is not shown.
.
Thanks a million to @rowfit_joe for making it possible for us to race in these circumstances!

January Home-training Camp

January camp is complete! After many morning erg intervals, hundreds of afternoon km’s and countless evening lifts, our athletes have emerged from our 2 week January home camp primed and ready to take on the National Indoor Championships this Saturday.
.
While lockdowns are never easy, we consider ourselves very lucky to have the support and communication network and we do through our coaches and teammates. We also enjoyed a very interesting interview with former Irish Olympian, Sean Casey, to break up the tough training. Thanks very much to Sean.

Shades of when @cristiano joined @manchesterunited from @spl.sportinglisbon as a 17 yr old talent, @jamesod_1 made the decision back in June, to take his bright future up the Shannon and join @ulrowing . James brings with him a decorated junior career, which involved competing at the Junior World Championships twice, and numerous victories at Limerick Regatta. .
When not studying for her degree in Mathematical Sciences, Clara shares the ULRC pass-time of going swimming in Kilaloe and enjoys cappuccinos from @hookandladderofficial and @no13thefactory (sponsorship😉?)

Lauren O’Brien
Rory O’Neill
🔹 UL Sport Bronze Scholarships.
.
@oneillrory14 and @lauren.obrien_ are both recipients of the UL Sport Bronze Scholarship.

Lauren is in her second year of Law and Accounting and is the treasurer of the club. She embodies this roll by carrying a leather briefcase with her at all times, although all of the rowing club’s transactions are done via online payment? Two much Netflix? Regardless, she does a great job.
.
Rory is studying Sports Science, under the tutelage of our coach, Frank Nugent. He is also the club’s Health and Safety Officer. He permanently wears a hi-vis jacket and encourages those around him to do the same.
.
These talented and internationally-experienced athletes are two of the silkiest boat movers we have (as the videos show) in our squad. We’re exceptionally lucky that they still have at least 3 seasons left representing UL.

Rowing Endowment Fund Scholarships:
Ava Kelly, Corina Coughlan, Luke Sutton, Colm Horan, Jonny Cuddy, Mikey Fanning, Conor Mulready, Ryan Spelman.

We are the only university in the country that offer scholarships to development athletes. These scholarships begin at a value of €500 and are hugely beneficial for athletes with a lot of potential who are looking to progress to the next level of the sport.

Our Beautiful Campus

Our boathouse is perched right at the riverside, in the heart of @universityoflimerick ‘s beautiful campus.
.
We are so lucky to have our training facility and home only 5 minutes from all university buildings and student accommodation. However, the boathouse and river still have the feeling of being tucked away in the middle of nature.
.
When you come to @universityoflimerick , you do not only join a great rowing club, you become part of a campus like no other, full of excitement, new opportunities and great people.
